We want your input on the Remediation Process Guide update

6 July 2026

We are updating our Remediation Process Guide and looking for input from anyone who specializes in environmental remediation.

The guide plays an important role in setting out how companies are expected to anticipate, prevent, manage and mitigate contamination at their federally regulated facilities. It also gives direction on what’s expected throughout the remediation process, such as:

  • Identifying and reporting contamination
  • Investigating sites
  • Engaging with affected people
  • Developing a remediation and risk management strategy
  • Showing that remediation is complete so the site can be used again

These updates make sure the Remediation Process Guide continues to reflect current practices and is as clear and useful as possible, including:

  • refining terminology
  • strengthening explanations and examples
  • sharing remediation process advancements
  • aligning with other updated CER materials like the 2026 Filing Manual
  • bringing in best practices from other regulators

If you have experience in remediation and are willing to share your expertise, please visit our CER Dialogue page. We will be accepting comments until October 5, 2026.
