Connecting perspectives: NWT Board Forum highlights
For the first time in over a decade, we hosted the Northwest Territories (NWT) Board Forum at Centre 10. The Forum brings together organizations involved in land use planning, environmental assessment, land and water regulation, and resource management to share knowledge and coordinate their work.
Earlier this month, more than 40 participants from co-management boards and government agencies met to exchange expertise and discuss common challenges when regulating in the North. They also explored opportunities to strengthen coordination across these areas, supporting more consistent approaches.
By connecting with partners across the North, we continue to build trust and strengthen collaboration with those who share regulatory responsibilities across the Northwest Territories.
"The NWT Board Forum highlights the importance and value of continued collaboration across the North. It was great to see the ongoing dialogue across organizations and the shared commitment to improving regulatory processes,” shares Genevieve Carr, Executive Vice-President, Transparency and Strategic Engagement.
Over three days, we explored topics like process efficiency, regulatory cooperation, and how Indigenous Knowledge and Western science can work together. Sessions showed how important it is to keep learning from different knowledge systems. We were given practical examples of how to work together in environmental assessment processes. and improve alignment across jurisdictions.
One of the highlights for everyone was a chance to visit the Tsuut’ina Buffalo Paddock where we learned about cultural practices and land stewardship.
Events like the NWT Board Forum help us strengthen relationships and work more closely with organizations in the North. We are proud to have hosted the Forum and to be a part of the NWT co-management system, supporting open dialogue with partners who share regulatory responsibilities across the Northwest Territories.
